Can anyone help. When I shutdown windows XP, it no longer goes to
black and white when the logout/shutdown/restart option appears. Can
anyone tell me how to reactivate this function or what is wrong?

Why do you sit and watch it?
Do your other hobbies include watching paint dry and turd polishing?

THIS is a major concern of yours?
It traumatizes you so much that you ask for assistance in a newsgroup?
(This MUST be right up there with rearranging your sock drawer!)

You gotta have the personality of a 3-bean salad!

Clean Install. Delete all partitions, create new ones. Full format every
partition. Now install XP clean; don't put any of your old data or programs
back on, that's what caused your problem.

While I agree in principle that losing this bit of Microsoft tomfoolery is
not exactly tragic, there is a valid reason for asking this question:
Computer software should be consistent in its behavior. An unexpected
inconsistency suggests that something has been changed that shouldn't have
been changed, and that's not good for system stability.

I don't have a practical answer to fix this particular problem, but I
would take it as a sign to remember to keep your data backups completely
up to date, because something is fundamentally wrong and you may be
heading for a re-install soon.

May not be windows fault. I had similar problem with the fade being
nonexistant to minimal. Turns out I had decreased the intensity on my LCD
display. Restoring the default intensity fixed the problem.

What exactly *is* the proper way to arrange your sock drawer?
I've tried all different methods but I still end up with the same results.
