I have just received a new 1.8G P4 Viao laptop which due to company policy
has had XP removed and Win-2000 installed. At home I am a WinXP user and
have no desire to go backwards and learn Win2000. Is it possible to set up a
dual boot by adding WinXP so that I can use XP but also keep the company
happy by having Win-2000 still there. I don't want to run the risk of
screwing up the Win-2000 intallation 'cos I will get blown away if I have to
go back and ask them to fix it. If it's possible what tools are recommended
to make it happen? Partition Magic? Is a new partition essential to make
this happen? Thanks John I

Partition Magic 7 Pro will partition your hard disc with ease. However,
tread carefully and check to make sure XP drivers are available for your
laptop's hardware as not all W2k drivers are compatable with XP

yes i have the same setup. and i used PM.
when i orig. had xp on i bought PM then partitioned the disk. made the other
drive a nt, and another fat32 and now have 98, 2000, and xp-all without
disturbing the xp-this all gets done while running PM in
xp. otherwise i hear you must first remove xp, format ,partition, then first
put on the oldest 98,2000, then xp. and also you have to have boot sectors for
each OS within the first 1079 or so cylinders, and some have to have the
startup files within the first 2 GB's- PM takes care of all that crap and warns
you and corrects mistakes. easy
