I have recently upgraded to Windows XP. installation went without too many
problems and accessing the internet has been fine until today.

Unfortunatley last night my husband informed me that he assumed that we were
still using IE5.5 and proceeded to download IE6 from the Microsoft website.
That done he then proceeded with the installation. Now when visiting
websites and clicking on links that require a new browser window to be
opened the new browser is a blank screen.
Clicking on links that merely replace the information on the screen of the
existing browser work fine, it's only when a new screen is opened that
nothing happens.

Can anyone help?

I don't suppose he chose to save old settings, you may have an option to
uninstall ie6 which hopefully will leave you with your original config

Kick him in the nuts anyway

I have the same problem with my IE 6. Before upgrading to WinXP, I
downloaded IE 6 under Win98se and it acted the same then as it does now. I
hope Microsoft comes up with a bug fix on this one.

Presuming you've fixed it, then next time if he has a 'suspicion' or an
'assumption' about the version. Check it by going.. Help -> About Internet
Explorer .... XP is should have 6.0.2600 I believe.
