My XP has an Advanced Installer hidden directory on all drives:
"AI_RecyclerBin" +h+s
I don't know how they got there. (I have 20 partitions.)
Some contain a lot of bytes, some only have two empty sub-directories.

I can remove them or rename them one-by-one and have done so on a
few partitions.

Google and Microsoft have references but only to places for
programmers using Advanced Installer. None that help me.

It appears to have originated from a Romanian company,
Caphyon, Ltd.

(Being paranoid, I suspect it has openings for invasions.)

Should I get rid of these hidden directories? ????????

This isn't really a Windows issue. You would be best off asking Caphyon
(http://www.advancedinstaller.com/). They have a user forum and it
appears this or similar issues have been addressed there.

It occurs in Windows.
I've tried to get into that forum, without success.
I e-mailed Advance Installer support but have not had an answer.
I've googled and Microsoft'd and only see instructions to programmers
for the use of Advanced Installer.

What does it do besides clutter my Windows XP with megabytes?

I had no problem getting into the forum using Firefox - not spamming by any
chance are you?

Seems like it has its own recycle bin? Try checking the service manager to
see an entry for Adavanced installer. Then nuke, uh... disable it. Also
check for an entry in one of Windows startup category using Microsoft's
AutoRuns.

Unless you disable the culprit that made those folders, deleting them one by
one would be meaningless since they would likely be created again.

Mirosoft never did uses Advanced Installer technology. It's the other way
around. Advanced Installer uses Microsoft's technology. Specifically, the
Windows Installer.

The likely contents of those folders are a duplicate (or partial duplicate)
on Windows' Recycle Bin for each drive. If not, then the contents are the
deleted data files of the program that was installed using Advanced
Installer. Or they're the master installer files or the program's backup
files themselves. Worst case is, they are collected files of personal
information. Either way, you should check the contents first using a hex
viewer/editor.

JJ, thanks. I deleted all of them (-h-s then rd/s) one-by-one.
They contained two empty (long alpha-numeric names) dir's.
One had contents but I missed them in my haste.

Seems weird to me. Both Google and Microsoft have obscure (to me)
information about Advanced Installer.

I hate it when someone stuffs my computer.

Advanced Installer support sent me this:

Yes, you can manually delete the "AI_RecycleBin" folders from all of

This folder is used by our file/folder removal mechanism from "Files
and Folders" page. It's a temporary folder used to store files that
will be removed from disk.
http://www.advancedinstaller.com/user-guide/file-removal-dialog.html

Also, after the installation (of a package which uses file removal
operations) finishes this folder should be automatically removed.
However, this behavior (the "AI_RecycleBin" is not automatically
removed after installation finishes) may be caused by a bug in an
older version of Advanced Installer which was fixed in our latest
versions. So, can you build your installation packages (which use file
removal mechanism) with our latest version of Advanced Installer
(10.0) and see if the behavior still persist?

UNQUOTE

I removed the hidden/system folders one-by-one.
The last paragraph means nothing to me. I don't have an "installer
package."

They probably include that automatically in case you're a developer using
their software to package your own.
