Can I remove the pagefile.sys and hiberfil.sys on my hard drive? they take
up a lot of space!
Thomas :)
You can try - might as well remove the OS as well 'cos that takes up even
more space! The pagefile.sys is the virtual memory file that pages RAM to
the h/d & back. If you know what you're doing, it's possible to run without
if large amounts of RAM are installed, don't go there. The hiberfil.sys is
the file that allows your box to Hibernate & is slightly larger than the
amount of RAM in size. If you don't want the ability to Hibernate, uncheck
this in Power Management which will then free up the space this file is
currently using.
Unless you're a tight arse who is trying to run too small a h/d leave well
alone, Hibernate works very well with WinXP. Rehide your system/hidden files
& don't worry about them just make sure you have a firewall enabled & run
antivirus s/w ;)

The pagefile.sys is used as ram on your harddrive if your ram isn't
enough...
But if you have 512MB ram or more, it can be removed in system-advance-
performance (settings) and advance again. then choose virtual memory...
But hiberfil.sys can be removed by choosing display properties and
screensaver and then power...
Hope I answered your question good enough...

the hiberfil.sys has been removed thanks to you :) but as I only have 384 Mb
of memory the pagefil.sys is still present!
Thanks again

control panel > system > advanced > virtual memory > change > mo paging
file. Reboot and delete pagefile.sys.
BUT... you will probably have a lot of trouble afterwards.
