Does anyone know what I can do about My Windows XP pro operating system
shutting down all the time? It says "remote procedure call terminated
unexpectedly, Windows is shutting down", and it also says: "This shutdown
was initiated by Windows\System\Authority" Thank you greatly for any
advice you can offer!

To avoid this (maybe) click administrative tools, services, remote
call procedure, change drops from restart to take no action

The same just happened to me four times [the last one while I was
typing this message!]. Mine tells me that the shutdown was initiated
by "NT Authority/System". Can anyone help us?

You are: NNTP-Posting-Host: 162.84.179.137

Since your post exposes your IP to the exploit; Block your ports 80, 135, 445,
593, 4444, 5555, 6351, 8718, 33571, 45522, ...aw hell, just disconnect from
the internet.

Microsoft released an update on 17 July 2003 for this, miss it?
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;823980

Here's a comment you may like about this latest exploit: "If your Windows
2000 or Windows XP machine exhibits any of these symptoms, it must be
completely rebuilt." Don't know if it's true though.

Interesting! My XP Home edition has just today started doing exact
same thing!

I've not yet found a solution. System Restore was no help. I posted
my problem to this group also, have not yet received any response.

Symantec posted this a couple hours ago:

It should fix you up.

I just started having this problem today. I am running XP Home with
Earthlink as my ISP. I visited tek-tips.com and took some advice about
running a firewall. After i enabled the XP native firewall, the
problem went away(so far, so good).
Then i went to Microsofts site and began catching up on the windows
updates.

Cheers,

Christopher

CORRECT....Judge

Turn on WinXPs firewall!
If you don't want to keep running the firewall, then do Windows Update!
After the update, you can turn off the firewall, then download and install
Zone Alarm.

will it do.....and how much does it cost?

Disconnect the Cat5 ethernet cable that connects your PC to the cable modem.
Turn on XP's firewall.
Reconnect the Cat5 cable.
Get the Windows patch (if you can connect to Win Update or from Symantecs'
site).
Get the Fixblast file from www.symantec.com and run it.
Done.

Ctrl/Alt/Delete to bring up task manager. Go to processes tab and scroll
down till you find msblaster.exe running. Highlight it and end the process.
Then connect to the internet and download the files. Also, before running
fixblast.exe, disable system restore on your machine.

Turned off system restore. rebooted into safe mode, ran the tool, rebooted
into Normal mode. ran the patch
