What happens if you don't "activate" XP in the 30 day time limit?

It disables all of the accounts on the system and will not unlock them until
you have contacted MS. I believe that MS has to give you a key to unlock the
computer to get back into the system. Basically that means that if you don't
activate it, they hold your data hostage until you either activate or format
the drive. But if you bought a copy, why would you not activate it?

if you dont activate within the 30 day grace period, Windows XP will only
boot in Safe mode until you activate.
