Hi everyone,
i have a monitor about 2 years old, it worked fine under W2K, but when
i bought a new system with WinXP preinstalled, after i see "windows
loading" progress bar and then the Windows logo, it becomes black and
doesn't show anything.
I can see everything in a safe mode though.
I tried another monitor - works just fine.

I cannot buy a new monitor right now, so if i will not find a
solution, i will have to install previous version of Windows.

Any help will be greatly appriciated.

Just trust me on this one... it's not your monitor.

Try a diff refresh rate.
set it for maybe 60Hz instead of 75 or 80hz
just a thought

Your new PC either has the refresh rate or resolution set to high for
your existing
monitor. While in Safe Mode set the refresh rate for "adapter default"
or "optimum" and
set the resolution to 800X600.

A similar thing happened to me--after installation, XP defaulted
to a screen resolution not supported by my (LCD) monitor, and the
monitor shut down. The solution was to boot up in "enable vga"
mode and set a lower resolution. It was a little scary hitting
the reset button with a blank screen, but there was no damage to
the file system.

couldnt access the display from that machine either

but i just uninstalled the graphics card and started again......it found the
card and had a lower res ,,, but it still wants to change display...i get
messages all the time...i just ignore them

only thing i have to be sure of is it doesnt auto update anymore.......but i
know i could restart into safe mode if i have too.....

I get an image of the inside of your house... a PC graveyard... formerly a

Win XP sets the default colours to 32 bit which may not be sustainable by
your monitor. Try 16 or 24 bit.

And don't forget to tell him to set it whilst he's in safe mode.

Not a very good one. He'll post back in a week whining about headaches.
