outlook express in xp

I have Installed xp professional but cannot open my address book in outlook
express or read any emails.the message I get when I try to open address book
is "it's not properly installed"
when I try to open emails it just say's "unable to open email" .

I have uninstalled and then tried again but with the same result any help
would be appreciated

OE cannot be uninstalled as such.
You said at the end of your post you had ME, so I'm guessing you installed
XP over ME,
XP doesn't really like being installed over 98/ME, and causes lots of
problems for lots of people.
Your best bet is to backup your data and emails, format your hard drive and
do a fresh/clean install of XP..

XP is installed over ME and it has caused all sorts of problems,
I wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong or if it isn't really
compatible I will have a go at saving everything as you suggested and
format.
