I'm having major problems with this program. I followed all the
directions from the Roxio website, including disabling Take Two and
installing both the upgrade to 5.1 and the driver update. The program
appears to work, but after a few days, I'll get the dreaded blue
screen of death upon booting up. Is there some basic imcompatibility
issues with Windows XP? Please advise. Thank you.

Many people are having trouble with XP and ECDC combination. Are you using Direct CD? If not uninstall it as it could be the culprit or at least make sure you have no DCD formatted CDs in the drive unless you are using them. You may have to change software. And no this is not XPs fault ECDC is a notoriously unstable product and seems to have been that way for a long time. For ease of use and seemingly zero problems you might wish to RecordNow Max 4. There is a 30 day trial here http://www.stompinc.com/trial/index.phtml?stp

Paula,

Did you have prior OEM version before you installed the Platinum? If
so you should completely remove that version. The upgrade to 5.1
automatically should disable Take Two. It did on mine. I have XP and it
works great for me. Did you check to make sure that your burner is
actually compatible with EZ Creator? Also have you asked your question in
the Roxio discussion group? You get some good advice there too. If you
remove the program, does the blue screen go away? You probably alread
paid close to $100.00 for this program, keep working on it because it is a
very good program. It worked fine for me on Win98SE and now on XP.

This is interesting but what the heck is ECDC?
I guess I'm a novice but I'm learning.
Thanx for taking time to reply to a stupid question.

Jonas,

that is the name of the program. Easy Creator CD Creator. DCD is Direct CD.
DCD is used for formating a CD R/W disk to use as a large 650 meg floppy
disk. This is great to store your documents, pictures anything you want to
keep yet have easy access to the information.

Paula,

If you should decide to uninstall EZ Creator for another program the
following site will tell you how to uninstall everything from XP.

http://ask.roxio.com/cgi-bin/roxio_tic.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_refno=011130-000007

Good Luck with whatever you do.

I have been using the Roxio software for some time under XP, both home
and pro. At first I had some problems but when I did a manual removal,
also on their sight and followed the install and install of the mods
exactly I found I no longer had problems. I have found though that if
you run you computer all the time (like I do) you should do a restart
before you use the software. You must alos disable the CD writing
software that come with windows.

Just curious, what's happening that requires a restart before using
EZCD? I'm running it under XP Pro and I only restart when installing
new software and it tells me I have to. So far it burns just fine.

been using Nero and/or NTI 2000 Pro. ....and never have any problems anymore
burning CD`s...

Dave this is an old trick that some folks used with Windows 9x/Me. Especially if they had limited resources like slower CPU or minimal RAM. As you know Win9x/Me is not good at releasing resources so the reboot helped. I have never found it necessary to do this with Windows 2000 or XP.

Well, in NT/2000/XP you have to keep logging out and back in rather than a
reboot.

Only gotta reboot ifi t doesn't let you logout.. ;)

Chris I never have had to "keep logging in and out" to have ECDC work in 2000 or XP. You must have me confused with someone else ;-)

It was the 'you' meaning 'one'.. bad english, but popular usage. Not you,
you. I don't know what you do. But I'll put in my files that YOU don't
have Easy CD Creator Problems that are fixed by rebooting/relogging in.

add/remove will normall unistall EZCD 5.02 and all its crap.... and yes 5.02
is 2000 and below compatible not XP. and the take two and Direct CD are
not XP compatible and screw up more than the SHUT DOWN sequence. recommnd
that u get EZCD 5.1 install it.... the copy the ezcd5.02 exe program into
5.11. run it at least once. simply by starting it. then shut down ezcd
5.02/ 5.11 modified. go to Roxio and get the 5.1 upgrade. and install
it.... now 5.1modified to 5.02 will be upgraded to 5.11

and never install Direct CD it already is installd if ur using XP. follow
the instruction above the make a copy of
1. ezcd5.1 (demo) add the ezcd 5.02.exe program to the cd for safe keeping.
then copy the 5.11 up grade to the CD and u will have a working EZCD5.11
program.

Interesting. I had version 5.1 running just fine until I had to re-install
Win XP. I installed the version of Roxio I had and then installed their
update to 5.1 and their XP compatibility package. Never worked right again.

Many problems with "access denied" and "read only" which can't be fixed with
the properties option nor with the command line.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Get the latest update, 5.1.0.104. This seems to pull it all together.
