Start --> Run --> type in: control userpasswords2

Brings up the familiar user accounts box. Uncheck "users must enter a
user name and password to use this computer" and enter the username
and password for the default user.

Yes, but: Something important (I forget what) won't work unless you start up
with a password. They symptoms of not working, moreover, don't directly
point to the absence of a password.

Pretty sure Tweak UI has this built into it.

Just go to start, control panel, user accounts, and click `change the way you
log in (or whatever the term is),then uncheck the `use welcome screen` box.
also, disable any password that you may have set.

I remembered: Scheduled Tasks won't work unless you sign in with a password.

This seems kinda dumb when you think on it: Suppose your machine re-boots
(power failure, restart) while you're not around. The machine will just
hang, waiting for the password, and the scheduler won't ever get a chance.
