HUH??? It isn't even released yet! How can there be a service pack? Or do
you mean the RC1?

It's called HotFixes. About 15 and change MB. Bunch of CPU (k6, K7 and p4)
fixes. It's available on the M$ password protected FTP server, but may be
available elsewhere :) .

Sheesh don't you think that after the 4in1 fiasco you would be tempted to
leave installing alone for a little while ;-)

Any "sp1" items that you find are probably in beta stages or they would be
hitting the Windows Update Site. It is more likely that installing these now
will add problems and not solve them. Think about it first!

It seems that bloody XP has made the decision for me! I cannot connect

working! (Once, before I changed hard drives)

I can get it ghosted but all it does is sit at the WinXP boot up
screen.

I bought a new one, formatted it NTFS (The other one is FAT32) Then I
did the following:

Installed new drive as drive D
Did the save files & Settings thing and saved to D
Did a backup of drive C (The original drive) and saved this to D
Removed C and made the new drive C
Installed XP
Restored the backup of the original drive
Restored the saved settings I had prepared earlier
reinstalled the programs that didnt reinstall.

result.

XP workin - ish
All my progs, (Gravity, Outlook etc) had the
files/newsgroups/messages/emails etc that were there when I backed up
NO APM, and when I installed it, unable to initialise, therefore cannot
have the machine power down properly
constant asking me for the files to install via busmaster IDE (Never did
find them, so that is un initialised as well
cannot connect to anyt servers on netmeeting
cannot connect to any servers on edonkey
VCD play, but jerky
AVI sometimes play fully, sometimes just audio

(My original post on all this, 'Enough is Enough' gives my machine specs
etc.

If anyone can help, I would love it cos I really want this working and I
dont want to have to reformat again, I am afraid I will lose something
in the process

Hi

Reading your earlier post in this group, going into further details of your
problems, could I suggest that you really look hard at the situation that
you are in and ask yourself is it really worth trying to retrieve this
unstable system and just how stable could it become..?

*IF* it was perfectly stable before you changed drives then that should
confirm that the rest of your hardware/software combination is alright
so....

Bite the bullet and start afresh, it really can at times be quicker and
possibly be more stable then trying to 'repair' sooo many problems.

At the very least a fresh install of XP on a clean hard drive will then tell
you if your burner, AVI files APM etc... all work as before - before you
then need to install any other software. After all you could have the system
backed up on your other hard drive ?

Best wishes

Morgan

Hi

When you ghosted your old drive and then ghgosted it back to your new (set
active) C drive what did you do with your old one that it was ghosted from,
did you put it as slve to the new drive or (I bet) remove it or format
it...?

This is a new MS product we are talking about here :) I still have the
old drive as it was! So if all else fails, I can go back to it and only
lose a few days stuff. However, having just spent this months disability
cheque on my new drive..... :)

With all the other stuff in there, I cannot have it as drive D. In fact
I had to remove my beloved Plextor 8x20 rw and scsi to make room for my
new 20x10x40 ide (And xp on the old drive still works)

I am just gonna have to bite the bullet I think. I sure hope that files
and settings transfer saves all my emails and email account settings!

Hi

Best of luck to you but have you considered as a temporary measure to put
your old drive as drive D, just remove a 'other' drive and then don't bother
with the transfer wizard but install XP afresh on the new drive and then
import your mail etc into Outlook from the d drive. Just maybe some of the
instabilities could have been caused through the transfer wizard...?

Just a thought

It is a 15mb file when d/l but when extracted it's approx 46mb! It was found
in a M$ server called SP1, and it is now availbale in "other places". I
installed it last night, and it seems to have fixed acouple of error I had.

It was a vicious battle, we fought up and down the hard drive, had
battles in the floppy disk, and kicked butt in the CD Rom. I brought out
my secret weapon, a WIN 98 BOOT DISK. Eventually I won! We are all
reinstalled, and finally I can power down. That via bus master file it
wanted but couldnt install screwed up the reliability of my drives, I
couldnt burn a disk or save from the import export wizard, (Files were
corrupted) But I am now almost done. All I need now is a copy of Gravity
2.3. It seems to have been removed from the microplanet site and all
shareware sites :(
