Sick to death of Nortons hogging all my resources and blocking every damned
thing on the Internet, I unstalled the lot!
I also stopped XP's own firewall for reasons of which I am nore sure
............ seemed a good idea at the time I guess!
AVG seems a heap of shit these days and rumour out is that they will soon be
charging for the Pro Version.

So hit me with yer thoughts gang!

I'm using this one and am very pleased:

No more Norton Win Doctor Kevorkian for me, either.

Greetings --

WinXP's built-in firewall is fine at stopping incoming attacks, and
hiding all of your ports from probes. It doesn't give you any alarms to
tell you that it is working, though. What WinXP also does not do, is
protect you from any Trojans or spyware that you might download and install
inadvertently. It doesn't monitor out-going traffic at all, much less block
(or at least ask you about) the bad or the questionable out-going packets.

ZoneAlarm is much better, and there is a free version available.
Personally, I've been very happy with Symantec's Norton Internet Security
2002, which includes Norton AntiVirus, Norton Personal Firewall, parental
controls, privacy controls, and ad blocking. (Just the elimination of most
pop-up ads on the Internet makes the price worth-while to me.)

I tested the firewall that comes with XP at several firewall testing sites.
They didn't find any holes in it. I use AVG anti-virus.

AV's are there too.

AVG is far from being "****" as u say and they have been charging for the
Pro version for some time now. The free version is a good product - many,
many ppl use it and are very satisfied with it (me included).
However, i also use SystemSuite by Ontrack - it has both AV & firewall built
into it as well as other maintenance features - nice program.
