All,
After trying unsuccessfully to contact Matthew Williams several times regarding any recent progress made on his h6180 emulator and receiving absolutely no reply I've decided to try the task myself. Granted, several others of more capability and valor than myself have attempted to create a simulator for the dps8 and have run screaming from the mere complexity of the task I have, nonetheless, decided to go where angels fear to tread and attempt to write a simh based simulator capable of booting multics.
I've downloaded the code base from the h6180 sourceforge project and have successfully ported it to the simh framework using both h6180 and simh PDP10 as porting bases. I've extended the rudimentary assembler in the h6180 project to a more capable 2-pass version and am able to successfully assemble non-trivial assembly programs and load and execute them in my simh simulator. There is much good code in Mr. Williams h6180 project and much that is incomplete. I am currently implementing the fixed point instruction repertoire and testing results from the simulator as I go along.
My question for all you Multicians out there is "is there anyone who reads this group familiar enough with the ge645/h6180/dps8m assembly/machine language that can assist me in interpreting the trace logs of my simulator to determine if I'm getting the proper results?" (I will also post this message to the yahoo Multicians group.) I'm consulting the ge635/h6180 and dps8 manuals available on bitsavers etc., but there are some gaps and any help would be greatly appreciated and contribute to the success of this project.
Regards,
Harry Reed
