I know, I apologize in advance, but I have to pose a
question for windows (10).

I am very unaware of exixting win10 SW (and also of the
intrinsic capabilities of the system itself), as I never had
it or used it at home.

I am compelled to use it at work, on machines where I am not
"admin" and I cannot install anything at all.

I just tried some things.
First : trying gsuite-jamboard and meet RECORD SESSION. This
works fine, except from the fact that I use it with a
"paria" account, and later it stores the saved video not in
my google drive, but in the admin's one (so I have to bore
and annoy him to move the files, with random names worstly)
So I abandoned it

Then I tried a couple of PortableApps (which often CRASH).

I tried OpenBoard for windows internal recording : rather
often crashes too, without any known reason.

I tried a couple of free recorder "online" (zero install),
but give very poor compression ratio.
20 MB / minute. And moreover don't ask DIRECTLY at the start
for a saving folder location : they postpone the download at
the end, so I would end up having to shorten my lessons in
order to spare time for download. This is not feasible
either : such time does not belong to me, but to my students.

The admin installed what at first glance seems windows
CRAPWARE : some Apowersoft screen recorder.
It always complaints about purchasing and/or register, and
then saves just less than 2 minutes and gives up working.

ah, one student signaled a microsoft in windows appstore,
but while I was looking for it, he said I'd need also a
videoediting to mount a separate audio, as that app captured
ONLY video.

Is it possible that in annus domini 2021 windows lacks a
really usable, free (no trialware, ads-ware) screen recorder ?

If you happen to know there is some, could you please
recommend it to me ?

Sth not requiring any installation (like WinPenPack or
PortableApps or else I dunno) ...

tnx for any response.
Again, I apologize for the OT, but I don't follow much
(euphemistically !) windows NGs ...

I understand, but maybe you will not find here many people that know a
lot of Windows software to give you an answer. Me, I use a bit of
Windows, but I don't know of any tool as which you ask for.

On the other hand, on the windows groups there are people that use both
systems and other that not, but may be friendly to such a question ;-)

I participate on alt.comp.os.windows-10. Some of them know I use Linux
mostly. Just don't do not belittle (or insult!) Windows or its users,
and everyone will be friendly ;-)

note taken, I am considering some AlternativeTo.com then
I'll ask there. Tnx

Sure I won't insult anyone in their homes, it'd be rather silly.
I am very frustrated with that "OS", not with its users. If
they are happy with it, me too for them :D

Like Carlos, I think this question had been better in a microsoft
windows usergroup than here.

One of the issues with microsoft windows is that the user base has a
different view on applications than we Linux users, it's quite common to
view software as a mean of earning money which leads to load of limited
trailware with option to buy a license to get full functionality or else
get advertisements in some form, as microsoft has been anti-opensource
for most of it's life.

You could try your favorite Linux ones and see if you get them to work
with help of WSL2, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Hi,
you can use 'discord'. Create your server and its channels where you can
invite the audience, you can decide who speaks and who listens while you
are sharing your screen view.It works, learn from gamers. ;^D

Windows 10 has something 'free' built-in called the 'xbox game bar' that
can be used to record video, that is - if, you have had your work PC
bought from a shop and they have left 'Windows 10 Home' installed on it.

You could use VLC to capture desktops.

However, the following 'OBS Studio' is free - and since it also works on
Linux, you can cross-train yourself.

Open Broadcaster Software Studio
https://obsproject.com/

I've also used Techsmith Camtasia, but it's a paid product ...

Alternatively you can use ffmpeg like this:

- look for the name of your microphone. from cmd you can use the
command:
ffmpeg -list_devices true -f dshow -i dummy

- start ffmpeg with the following command line:
ffmpeg -rtbufsize 1500M -f dshow -i audio="Your microphone name" -f
-y -rtbufsize 100M -f gdigrab -t 00:00:30 -framerate 30 -probesize 10M
-draw_mouse 1 -i desktop -c:v libx264 -r 30 -preset ultrafast -tune
zerolatency -crf 25 -pix_fmt yuv420p "d:\your_filename.mp4"

- terminate by typing 'q' in the cmd window.

This ffmpeg command will record screen, audio and mouse pointer (tried
on win 10).

Ah, didn't know that site, or I forgot about it.
It redirects to https://alternativeto.net/

Many people simply use the tool that works better to solve whatever need
or problem, no matter the OS. Other people first search on their
preferred OS, and if not found, search on another. No big deal, no fuss :-)

You may find out that there is a significant number of windows users
frustrated with windows, but very few actually consider jumping to
Linux, it is difficult for them. The idea to have to occasionally type
something in a terminal or edit a configuration file is like mentioning
hell X'-D

So, what they do is go back to Windows 8 or 7. Or freeze the updates.

Anyway, there are people on both sides also using "the other" ;-)

I'll try, if this can be accessed by cmd.exe as a plain user
with no admin privileges.
Tnx a lot for the valuable advice !!!!

BTW : ffmpeg ships with windows out of the box, I hope ....

tnx : I actually do have OBS studio in PortableApps. I had
not considered it a lot because from USB was really slow to
load, and it seemed a very sophisticated and "overkill"
system for basic agile needs.
But actually if I can try it also on linux at home, maybe I
can overcome the complex interface.

He is a moron - advocates have blocked his socks. What he really needs
is a script that keeps switching names, then they'd have a possibility
at being almost as idiotic as he is.

I know we have different ideas completely. I thought showing The Holy
Ghost some kindness might help the situation. It did not. You do realize
that the massive floods ending up in multiple groups started out when
The Holy Ghost was quoted lying.
