I gave up. I'm not a coder. The netgear pcmcia card (atheros chipset) works
instead. All that .tar.bz shit and ndiswrapper stuff is too hard.
Linux fanbois think linux is some fucking magical os that never fails,
always works and is so easy a retarded monkey could run it.
Not quite. I could poast shitloads of links to forums where people have
been fighting with the broadcom chipset based cards.(for years)
Funny thing, even in distros where its supported "out-of-the-box" like
Puppy 4.2, the sound cuts out when you're streaming music and you scroll
a webpage or download a newsfroup poast. When I do that with XP its
fucking smooth as silk: no audio burps, no jerky scrolling.
Go figure.

Which is in the form of a handy easy-to-install RPM or apt-get
situation?
No? So it involves libraries, dependencies, 'make', install etc?
Sorry, thats setting the bar too high. Remember, I'm an *average* user.
The command line is to be avoided at all costs.

Didnt say they did. Experience with Puppy is what made it evident.

At this point I have to pick a distro. I guess I could use SuSE10.2
since I have it already.
I dl'd SLAX yesterday and put it on a flash-card. But it wont
automagically start the wifi radio, knetwork sees the network but says
its unavailable so I had to do 'iwconfig wlan0 <essid>' to get it to
"see" the network, then do 'iwlist scan' to connect. Thats pretty
fucked...its the latest version of SLAX. On top of that, the serial
mouse is a no-go. Even doing 'Alt+F2, "konsole", enter, "mouseconfig"
brings no joy. SLAX will simply not hold a config...and then it started
to have all sorts of errors. Couldnt mount "home"...I/O error message.
Never got my serial mouse to work. If I was superstitious I'd say the
*nix gods hate me guts.

Are you a cup half full kinda guy? A bit of an optimist?
Always looking on the bright side?
Well you'd be sorely dissapointed then. After installing the RPM I still get
"Access Point: Invalid"
Sorry linux, you FAIL, EPICLY, where the broadcom wireless card is of issue.

Guess the magical operating system isnt so fucking magical after all.

Nope. Works fine here. The FAIL is with YOU.

It doesn't work for people with 2-digit IQ's, 'tis true.
