I've been looking at some "standard output" in gedit, the output taken form
a bash shell.
However, when looking at this output that are a variety of characters that
couldnt be displayed. I've included a screenshot of the symbols, hoefully
you guys (and galls ,all 2 of you out there in the unix world), might know
what the symbols represent. I'm running debian 3.1r0a, KDE 3.3.
Thanks in advance.

This is only an educated guess; I could be way off the mark.

None printable characters are being sent to your standard output and
these are being printed as the square boxes you see. Each box includes
a hex code which could be its ASCII code.

Which TERM setting are you using?
