I am trying to communicate with a single board computer from linux . I
am trying to use minicom. The Single board comp manufacturer specifies a
setting of 115000 8N1.
I opened minicom did Cntrl A - O
configured 115000 8N1 .Then i restarted mincom. It doenst work. Now the
sttus line says 'offline' in minicom.I think that this might be the
problem. As it should be online...right?
Has anyone successfuly used minicom to listen to the serial port. Kindly
advise me the exact and detailed steps if possible

i feel i didnt make myself clear. I am using a Linux PC with a serial
port on it. I want to talk to a Single board computer that is connected
to this Linux PC host through serial port.
So

Have you tried Seyon? It's an x-based telecommunicatios program like
Minicom.

I use it to transfer notes taken while out and about on an old Tandy 102
portable by modem. I realize that's not quite what you're asking but I
would think it might work.

If you are NOT using minicom to connect to a modem and have not cleared
out the modem init strings in minicom setup, then it maybe it should be
started with -o switch (see 'man minicom'), so it does not try to
initialize a non-existing modem.

It has been awhile, but I do not think it necessarily shows online when
you have a direct connection without a modem.

Is the serial port on that single board computer expecting a terminal to
connect, or is it like a PC serial port (which may require a null modem
cable)?
