The question is:
Being so STUPID, how she got her HS diploma ???
How she got accepted in a College ???
How she earned $1100 to buy a business laptop for home use ???

Then, it hit me, she probably worked all her life on 'her knees'.

Too true. If you can't deal with the least little bit of beaurocracy, you
will never get through school. There's always some nonsense to deal with. It
doesn't matter if it's student loans or the scheduling system or something
else your institution has decided to do extraordinarily badly.

It was HER fault, Dell warn you several times, and gives you the option
to change OS, she stuck with Linux, even not having idea of what it was.

Since she did not know the difference between her elbow and her rear
end, NOBODY can help her.
Trying to run a Win Setup program in Linux, and then complaining about
it not working .....

They about as clueless as her.

No as much as you do.
You try to be PC, and came as a total 'Ass-hole' talking about something
way over your mental capacity.

Given enough ignorance it may be that her idea of what it was, was
limited to 'cheaper'. She may have believed that all computers run
Windows and that Ubuntu is just another sort of Windows (like Windows XP
or Windows Vista or Windows 10; Windows Ubuntu - just another version).

If Dell offer pre-installed Ubuntu they must be prepared to provide at
least as much user support for it as they do for the other operating
systems they pre-install. So a phone call from the customer should have
triggered a sensible response (such as instructions for getting on line
without using a Windows installation CD and what programs to use for web
browsing, email, etc). Somehow that didn't happen.

I thought they showed some understanding of the fact that Ubuntu has
nothing to do with Windows and won't run software distributed for
Windows. They also pointed out that her ISP were able to offer help to
get her on line using Linux, and that the college said that all their
services were accessible using Linux, so the puzzle really has to be why
the woman couldn't sort all that out for herself with one or two phone
calls.

How or why she sought publicity is the real question. Profit springs to
mind but she may be disappointed if that was her motive.

At least Dell's offering of something that isn't Windows has been given
some publicity.

You expect too much, many, probably most people don't even know about or
are interested in the concept of an OS.
Or that a computer needs such to run other(?) programs.

What a curious and needlessly complicating idea that OS and program
should be compatible.

Someone should track her down and see how things have gone since her
life was ruined by Ubuntu.

I've read some of the posts here and it seems that the members of this
group need to consider that this woman does not live, eat, sleep
computers. She wants to use a computer as an appliance- she cares not
about all the constant Linux-Windows user wars - she just wants to have
a tool to use in her coursework.

There are more people out there who have not heard of Linux and its
variants than there are Linux users, so give her a break. Sometimes I
wonder if there are people who do nothing with a computer but
continually install/uninstall operating systems just for the thrill of
it never or nearly never do anything else with their computer and
that's OK if that's what you want to do. But don't call those others
ignorant if they just want to turn on their computer, write a document
or work a spreadsheet, or surf the Internet and don't care what OS is
being used. Eeryone has an area of interestthat they are passionate
about, and not all are comoputer types.

As far as her experience with Dell, it seems she ended up talkiing to
one of those computer nerds who prefers Ubuntu over Windows, and really
didn't try to understand her concerns. A question or two would have
told him/her this was a person who should be using windows.

That's my opinion, so if it's diffrent from yours, don't start name
calling and that other crap - just delete it without comment and have a
nice day.

BTW - I am a computer nerd, have been since 1964. I've done systems
programming and real-time programming as a manufacturer representative
so I know the fascination of coputers.

I don't know what the difference might be between iOS and Android mobile
'phones OS's, but would a person that owned an Android 'phone really
expect an iOS program to run on their Android 'Phone?? And Vice Versa,
of course??

Many just look at the name and when it with function description looks

When you have to/want to update FF on your Android, do you have to do it
or does your Android system just apply the update for you?? Is there any
possibility that someone might try to apply the iOS FF update??

I know I get the Android version from the Google Play repository, the
Linux version from the Ubuntu repository and the Windows version from
the Mozilla site.

But how many (Windows) users would not hesitate to download from any
site and thus be liable to get an adulterated version?

Reports tell us 'side loading' is one of the main sources of malware on
Android, i.e. people downloading an app from some untrusted site.
Luckily the last is harder in iOS.
