SuSE 10.0
IBM Thinkpad T41
No dual-boot, just SuSE

I know there are plenty of requests for help on this topic, but I am
still stuck after following the suggestions. Upon startup the system
drops to command line and states:

fsck failed. Please repair manually and reboot. The root file system
is currently mounted read-only.

So I give the root password and try:
(none):~ # fsck.resierfs /dev/hda1
Do you want to run this program?[N/Yes]: Y
(none):~ #

(none):~ # fsck.resierfs /dev/hda2
Do you want to run this program?[N/Yes]: Y
(none):~ #

Both of these respond back to command prompt almost instantly.
Shouldn't this take a while? Restarting the system gets me to the
same place.

Here is the kicker of how I got here. I had a different hdd in the
system running Windows Vista. I put Vista to sleep (rather than
shutdown), pulled the hdd out, and put in this SuSE 10.0 hdd that has
run fine for years. I didn't know that choosing the power icon in
Vista only put the system to sleep.

So upon the system "waking", it evidently wrote over some key things.

Thanks for any help,
Rob

You need to fully type

--> Yes <---

and not just 'Y'
