kpdftool is a pdf utility that merges pdf files. Apparently it existed
in slack 12.1 but is dependent on KDE3.5x
I can of course reinstall slack 12.1 on a spare partition but that
seems to be overkill. Or I can start transferring qt3 libraries into
my Slack 13 partition but that may be a bit risky.

1. Is there another package that will merge pdf files and run under
slack 13?

pdftk ... There is a slackbuild for it at
http://slackbuilds.org/repository/13.0/office/pdftk/

Cheers.

In particular ghostscript or texexec.

Thats what the files in /slackware/extra/kde3-compat/ are for.

This area is designed to become quite warm during normal operation.
