So the changelog today has another big bunch of updates, including
"open-cobol", which I probably wouldn't have noticed, except for the
statement "We're finally a mature operating system. Enjoy. :)".

The slew of updates is prefaced with "Thanks to Robby Workman for help
with many of these updates!" but I don't know if he's responsible for the
cobol.

If he is, I vote we lynch him. ;-)

Just because something's included doesn't mean you have to use it.

But what struck me is that since it's now included, Cobol must be
reasonabley small. What a change from when they had to work to squeeze
Cobol into available memory, likely without a real operating system
underneath. Now it can be added to Slackware without any real fuss about
its value to the distribution. It would seem to not be a liability,
unlike osme of the things that get removed for whatever reasons.

Now everyone will have to get or make cardreaders so they can run their
old Cobol programs at home.

It amazes me that so few people manage to put together something so large.

No, I had nothing to do with that - I'm to blame for the gtk3 and
related stuff :-)
