Woe is me. With slackware 14.0, I cannot set up AND print with my HP
colorsmart pro b8800. Cups will find it and set it up, but it does not
print. hp-setup will find it set it up, and it will not print.

What happens is that the picture gets sent to the printer (I know this
because of the whirring and clanking of the printer) but eventually the
printer crashes with a flashing X on the panel.

Anyone got any thoughts?

John.

BTW: The f*cker will print a test page. Maybe it's gtk?

Woe is me.

So I decide to print through gwenview, and it prints. I'm having trouble
printing through gimp-2.8.2 and gimp-git-master. I'd suspect GTK+. This is
probably not a slackware problem.

Woe is me.

Sounds like the RIP software in gutenprint drivers to me. One problem
I've had going way back is a need to change the cache size. This only affects
large prints, but virtually everything I do is large...

Try this command after CUPS has been started, then try again to print
something.

cupsctl -h localhost:631 RIPCache=1024MB

If it works, post something and I'll show you a good place to insert
that into /etc/rc.d/rc.cups.

Thanks for the tip, but that did not fix it.

I started gimp-2.8.2 and printed with gutenprint, which works, which means
that gimp > gtk+ is broken for printing.
