I found a very helpful music website that still uses midi files for
its sound samples. I figured with realplayer, mplayer, etc, plugins
for my seamonkey, I'd be good to go. Evidently not. None of these
plugins even list midi. I'm even having probs finding seamonkey
plugins that run midi web links. Any suggestions? Not interested in
dwnlding files.

Search terms: play, playing, mid, midi, files, browser, online

Tried VLC. Anyone who tells you vlc plays midi is wrong.

Next, installed timidity and gus-patches from slacky (thnx, guys!).
Then changed seamonkey helper apps to include midi files using
/usr/bin/timidity:

add: audio/midi
files: MID, mid, midi

Works jes fine. ;)

I'll tell you here and now: playing midi files with VLC works!
VLC uses the fluidsynth library to play midi but... you need to
install at least one sound font.
I have a few links to soundfonts here:
http://connie.slackware.com/~alien/slackbuilds/TiMidity++/build/00README.slackware

When you have installed a soundfont, open VLC preferences, click on
"Options > All" in the lower right, then browse to "Input/Codecs >
Audio Codecs > FluidSynth" and enter the full pathname to that soundfont.

Oh sure .... you're there after I found a solution!

No wait... what's with that ".../timidity++/..." link and who's
