X 4.2.0 - locale not supported by Xlib

I use Slackware 8.0 with kernel 2.4.5 and X 4.1.0 compiled and installed from
sources.
Recently i tried to install X 4.2.0 the same way. Everything looked O'k but...
When any of users is trying to launch X it starts and works but warnings
appear too:

Part of it is from WindowMaker (0.65.0), part from emelfm (launched from
.xinitrc) and part directly from XFree86.
Finally none of locales settings (keyboard) does not work as I expected to.
When root has his X session there are no warning and the localized keyboard
works well.
Did anybody have such a problem and solved it?

When you compiled X did you include the parameter -no-locale??

the locale alias file may only be readable as root.
the locales system has the ability to use aliases for certain locales,
e.g. `nl_NL@euro' for `nl_NL.ISO8859-15'. this is useful because the
console requires a slightly different locale syntax than X. (the
console wants `nl_NL.ISO-8859-15', with an extra dash between ISO and
8859.) these aliases are defined in
/usr/X11/lib/X11/locale/locale.alias. it could be that this file is
only readable by root. if so, X cannot make the proper translation and
cannot set up the locale.
the other possibility is that root isn't actually using locales. what
is the output of the command `locale' under root? in that case, you
may have to install glocale.tgz from slackware 8.0 or you have to
upgrade your glibc to the version in slackware-current. (in slack8.0
the locale libs were separated from glibc and put in a separate
package, glocale. in slack current, the locales are in the main glibc
package again. at least they were when i installed them...)

For root and user output is the same.
I left LC_ALL=POSIX in /etc/profile
but I set locales in ~/.bash_profile in every home directory.
I don't think it should interfere.

is this a keyboard problem, like the 'a' key print 'q' or a gui problem
menu are not translated?
if it can help , i have a link from /usr/share/locale to
/opt/gnome/share/locale and a link from /usr/X11R6/lib/X11 to
/usr/lib/X11
if it is a keyboard problem , check that /etc/X11/xkb/compiled point
to /var/lib/xkb

I'll try to explain you what happens with the keyboard, though it is difficult
when you use a different language and a differnet keyboard ofcourse
(French I guess).
Let's consider xterm.
Imagine that a normally polonized system gives you accented-a when you press
RightALT+a. LeftALT+key shouldn't have any meaning in xterm.
You got it in X 3.x.x and X 4.x.x (except 4.2.0 in my case).
In 4.2.0, despite the warnings what I posted about, RightALT - doesn't work,
but LeftALT+keys give many different Europen accented characters
(Spanish I guess) but not Polish.
Keep in mind that I just change X-system only and didn't change
/etc/X11/XF86Config.
Described above happens to the user. The Root has almost suitable situation
(no warnings) RightALT+a gives what I expected (Polish accented-a)
but LeftALT+a gives Spanish-a(?) what shouldn't happen.
Huh... complicated isn't it?

Those are ok, but...

glocale.tgz I had before upadating the glibc what I just made:
glibc-2.2.5-i386-1
glibc-i18n-2.2.5-i386-1
glibc-solibs-2.2.5-i386-1
glibc-zoneinfo-2.2.5-i386-1
I tried compiling and installing X 4.2.0 once more
but no progress...

Quite big packages for taking via modem - I expect.
Maybe I should check somewhere what is special in those packages?
By the way I used:
X420src-1.tgz
X420src-2.tgz
X420src-3.tgz
Or the last chance - make another Slackware 8.0 + X 4.2.0 installation
(on other partition) and check cooperative?

O'k I followed your advise and I found CD (added to same Linux magazine)
with Slackware current X 4.2.0
Now:
user - has no complaints about locale not supported...
root - like previously no complaints...
Problems:
Almost none, despite this the user and the root has the localized keyboard
like I wanted to, plus same Spanish characters (xterm only).
But it's minor problem, maybe I should tune my /etc/X11/XF86Config ?
I have just Option "XkbLayout" "pl" .
I need to look at manuals.
Next steps will be:
1. recompiling new glibc
'2.2.5' is running slow, I think.
I noticed that at system going-up, before the login-prompt appears.
2. recompiling the X 4.2.0 from the current source packages
I hope everything is going on the right way.
