Chaps,

trying to run Xnest connecting to localhost, i.e.:

bash-3.1$ Xnest -query localhost :3

But it does not get a login screen. I've made adjustments in /etc/X11/:

Xaccess:
* #any host can get a login window

And xdm-config

! SECURITY: do not listen for XDMCP or Chooser requests
! Comment out this line if you want to manage X terminals with xdm
!DisplayManager.requestPort: 0

Also have checked /etc/kde/kdm/Xaccess - same setting as /etc/X11...

Any thoughts?

Pete

Are you running xdm? On Slackware 12 I am usin kdm instead. Then I
modified /etc/kde/kdm/Xaccess as above instead of /etc/X11/xdm/Xaccess

Also, I had to modify /etc/kde/kdm/kdmrc:
[Xdmcp]
# Whether KDM should listen to incoming XDMCP requests.
# Default is true
Enable=true

I don't remember for sure if these were the only required modifications,
but at least I have it up and running so I can connect with Xnest.

regards Henrik
