I want to use Slackware 14.2 as a backup host for my main
Slackware system, using rdiff-backup. In this light, in the backup host I
only want to install the packages that I absolutely need. The question
would be, what is the minimal installation that I can get away with? Some
things to get rid of are obvious - e.g. all the the X stuff, TeX, the
games. What else can I reasonably get rid of?

kde and xfce of course, emacs, tcl, all of the faq's and how-to's (f).
You could start with the a, ap, l and n sets, if you don't need to
compile your own kernel cq kernel modules, you can leave out the
kernel source (k) too.

PS: if you DO want to compile some stuff you will need gcc and maybe
g++ from the "d" set, of course, and maybe some other applications from
that set, like make, too.
