If you don't have right kernel either you can pach kernel for 2940
support or you can use http://linux.early.com/linux/config.html
to configure your own linux kernel

Easist solution is to look for package which Linux kernel is 1.3 or
newer. (I know that Linux 1.2.13 on Slackware 3.0 is suppose to
recognize Adaptec 294x cards, but it failed miserable with my
2944). At least one of the alternative solutions is to loan IDE disk
from somewhere. You plug that one into your system, install Slackware
into that one. Do necessary upgradge (gcc, libc, kernel, binutils) so
that you can compile newer kernel (1.3.x or 2.0.x). Once you have
successful (possible limited) installation on IDE drive, you can
install system into SCSI disk.
There are number of steps into that operation, but each step is
logical and that IDE drive doesn't have to be big (I used 100 MB disk
in my installation).
Good luck.

Slackware 2.0??
Are you preparing a museum piece or something?
Do yourself a favor and start with at least Slackware 3.0!
You'll need the updated aic-78xx boot disk, but trust me, it works:

You need to install with the april '96 release (slackware 3.0) or get
boot/root install images from ftp.cdrom.com or sunsite.unc.edu

Arggg.... Will it ever stop?
Questions about AHA 2940 all the time, plus Vertex 3Com cards:
I've both in my system, and I installed DEBIAN on the first attempt!
