I tried the Slackbuild and also a later version downloaded from the
Blender site. Both versions take me back to the kdm signon screen.
Never had a program do that to me before.

If so I would look for error messages in /var/log/Xorg.0.log , /var/log/

Xorg.0.log.old and ~/.xsession-errors.
