Hi Team,
Just getting used to the PCLinuxOS64 2017.02 when
the next release popped up on Distrowatch.

This is a good basic release with KDE 5.8 LTS. But
KWrite and Kate my regular text editors still have
missing plugins.
The digital clock for the task panel has been improved
but while you can now select from calendrical systems you
still cannot copy.

I advise that if you are interested you take some time
to customize the partitioning portion of the install. I decided
to use the install to wipe out some errors so I selected
the full disk install and ended up with efi of 5 megabytes
Swap of <4 Gigabytes, and a 300 GB+ /home partitions.

Well that was simply unacceptable to me so I installed into
a large "/" partition and a smaller "/home partition" . I already
had a EFI partition and a magical "Boot Bios" partition which
works as I am using a salvaged Dell E6420 with a old BIOS
to setup a GPT scheme.
It is running fine and I did updates earlier today and then
having found it was short of K3b when I wanted to make
a DVD for a member at a LUG meeting. I went ahead at the
meeting and rebooted to PC-LOS 2016.03 fully updated
and using the latest kernel to make my DVDs and CDS for
the LUG meeting on Sunday.

So if you have a PC-LOS 2017.04 install you might want
to make sure you have every program you might need already
installed.

KDE's Plasma 5.8.x is still incomplete in my estimation.

You can expect me to report that when KDE finally
provides all the user facilities that we see in KDE's
Plasma 4.14.18 as we saw in KDE's previous release
of 3.5.9. I will be ebullient and possibly ecstatic when
that happens.

Meantime I downloaded and check-summed a copy of
Open Mandriva 3.01, so may have something to say about
that distribution in the near futue

bliss "running fast and light" on PCLinuxOS64-2016.03

Of course that will be about 2 hours before KDE announces Plasma 6 with
a completely incompatible architecture to Plasma 5.

I do hope you are overly pessimistic,
We got several good years out of KDE's Plasma 4.
So after they get the kinks out of KDE's Plasma 5 I would hope for
several years of undisturbed use before they marshal the resources
to start on KDE's Plasma 6 with the new MistForm interface. In the
interval I may well die of old age or one of my allergies.

bliss - ever somewhat hopeful.
