Just installed Mandrake 7.2 and Win 98 on the kids' computer. Everything
fine apart from one problem: LILO does not respond to any keys at startup.
Neither does GRUB. If I don't press any key it's fine, Linux starts. But if
I use the arrows to move up and down in the list and come back to Linux and
press enter, it does not work. Neither does it work if I choose Windows. So
now I can't access Windows and can only boot Linux. The keyboard is a very
standard run-of-the-mill keyboard. LILO config is exactly on the spot, with
hda1 for Windows, and hda5 for Linux. Any solution to this problem?

Sure can do. Here goes:
boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
vga=normal
default=linux
keytable=/boot/qc-latin1.klt
prompt
timeout=50
message=/boot/message
menu-scheme=wb:bw:wb:bw
image=/boot/vmlinuz
label=linux
root=/dev/hda5
read-only
other=/dev/hda1
label=windows
table=/dev/hda
The problem is, as soon as I press a key, and that could be simply the
ENTER key to go on with booting Linux for instance, Lilo freezes and boots
nothing. Same if I use the arrows to select Windows, followed by ENTER:
nothing boots.
Any clue?
Alain
It would appear that your keytable file is corrupted or the keyboard does
not match the keybable.
Make a copy of your current lilo.conf then edit the keytable line to match
your keyboard or change it to /boot/us.klt
Save the edited file as lilo.conf
Then run lilo -v and reboot.
Hope that helps
Neal
