I've installed KDE3 (from texstar) over MDK8.2. Now, almost everytime I use
the console, my systems partially freezes and I get an alert-box telling me:
"KDEInit could not launch 'konsole-noxft'"
When I close the console, my systems gets back to normal. It seems to me
that it happens when I minimize the console window or when I completely
obscure it with another window.
I'd like to fix this, but I'm at a loss where to look. One option is going
back to KDE2.2.2, but I really like the light-blue stripes in KMail... ;-)

Its a common problem, a few fixes have been offered, but I never gt them to
work. But I do agree, The Blue Stripes in Kmail Kick ass :)

This worked for me...
$ cd /usr/share/applnk-mdk/Terminals/
$ su
# kate konsole.desktop
then, put a space in 'konsole-nofxt' so it reads 'konsole -nofxt'
save it, and all should be well.

I also applied that fix to my konsole panel icon as well.

That should be two dashes, if you're not going to use the wrapper
script.
konsole --noxft

Thanks people, problem solved!

Nope not for me. Did you need to restart somthing for changes to occur?

After typing this, I get a message in the console saying 'kio (Scheduler):
ERROR: ERROR 3: couldn't create slave : can't talk to klauncher' and a
dialog pops up saying 'Could not start process can't talk to klauncher'. Any
suggestions?
I exited the console and tried again, this time it just froze after typing
the above statement.
right click on the terminal
click on preferences...
click on the execute tab
then put the space in
konsole -noxft %i %m
After that, delete the link in the panel and add it again
This worked for me

Hi
Thanks a lot, that worked for me. Now my panel is working again :)
Viel Danke! Muchos Gracias, Thank you. However you would like to say it I
am very grateful to your input on this issue. I did find on my system
however that I had no need to delete the link in the panel and re add it.
I simply restarted X and I was off to the races...
