Hello all!

Why shall gentoo livcd mininal/big be so difficult to make installed and with
lot of bugs in, the older versions like 2.6.35-r7 do not have any bad way of
installing and make to work for harddisk boot.
Fir is there in 2.6.38-r6 the bugs of modules not is been compiled and have
errors on by compiled and when it last is working come the last portage to
emerge, compile and install of grub.
emerge grub
and it ends with it says thate one file is damaged in /boot/grub/stage1 and it
can be used why stage2 and stage3 is older and is working.
so grub.conf is been setu and configured.
then a last finaly the last t install grug in to the harddisks mbr sector.
grub-install --no-floppy, option --no-floppy is not working to make grug to
skip check for fd0.
and after some lines by 10 to 15 lines and time with i/o error reading fd0 and
then could not install grub by bad not weorking stage1 file.
then tried to edit file device.map by move line (fd0)
and then tries grub-install --no-floppy
no errors by i/o reading fd0 bt end with could not install grub in mbr in
reason of bad stage3 there not have workded to be read.

Then try do it the manually way.
grub --no-floppy
grub:> root (hd0,0)
got fine here
grub:> setup (hd0)
bang error by stage3 file
and message grup can not be installed why stage3 file not is good
grub:> quit
finish but grub not been installed in /dev/sda

To make kernel and genkernel all to work by modules to initramfs, is the way
here to do it.
Then before emerge genkernel and after emerge gentoo-sources - do emerge
app-misc/mc (midnight commander)
it will search for 13 portage to get and compile and install and there is about
6 to 8 modules there is been installed and 3 libs too, and the modules is them
kernel and initramfs shall use.
when run the 3-4 steps - emerge gentoo-source - emerge app-misc and emerge
genkernel, then run genkernel all and not error by the modules.

Or.
genkernel all
get the errors first and check if initramfs is made - it is not.
then emerge app-misc/mc
and again 'genkernel all'
al it is all been made.

But why shall gentoo with the last kernel 2.6.28-r6 be so difficult and buggy
in its install.
If you have a older kernel in work and just opdate kernel to 2.6.28-r6 is there
no problem in it. But do a install from livecd id it very hard to do.

Take care

genkernel has a big history of not working and I haven't used it more than
once or twice before I decided to make all manually instead.
I don't use initramfs, instead I compile all the driver into the kernel
which I need during boot up (usually not much more than drivers for disk,
nic only if I need to use tftp/nfs for root file system).

For boot loader there are options other than grub/grub2, which has been
working fine for a lot of people, for example lilo.

Brug is more friendly in correction if it not working, where lilo is more hard
to make corrected as I know.
