Just installed SolydX 201405 x64, a debian testing derivative.
In the past, I could highlight a file in Thunar and hit the
Delete key and the file would be moved to the Trash.

With this release that didn't happen. I hit Delete and get a box
that says "Are you sure that you want to permanently delete
{filename} ? If you delete a file it is permanently lost."
Also, in the side pane, if I right-click Devices, I see no sign
of Trash.

I found there was no ~/.local/share/Trash/{files,expunged,info}
so I created them and 'chmod +t' all 4 dirs as mentioned in the
Trash spec. Still no luck.

So I went in /etc/skel and did the same. This directory contains
a 'skeleton' of files that are used when a new user is created.
Then I created a guest account, and it shows the correct behavior.
All the gvfs daemons are running: $ ps -e|grep gvfs
15849 ? 00:00:00 gvfsd
16077 ? 00:00:01 gvfs-udisks2-vo
16102 ? 00:00:00 gvfs-gphoto2-vo
16106 ? 00:00:00 gvfs-afc-volume
16111 ? 00:00:00 gvfs-mtp-volume
16115 ? 00:00:00 gvfs-goa-volume
16165 ? 00:00:00 gvfsd-metadata
19089 ? 00:00:00 gvfsd-trash

I've been thru web searches, I've compared every config file in
the two accounts, and I can't see any differences that would
account for this behavior. Can any guru out there give me a hint?

Thanks for any help you can give.

never used Thunar but every file manager I have used has this as a
choice in Preferences whether to bypass Trash or not.

But you've been there - right?

Your statement sounds eminently reasonable to me. But Thunar's
Edit==>Preferences doesn't present that option. If it did I
wouldn't have to chase thru all those config files trying to
correct this situation.

Then it is likely set elsewhere.

Do you have a .config/thunar/? file somewhere?

$ la ~/.config/Thunar
accels.scm uca.xml volmanrc

Like I said, I've compared every config file I could locate in
the two accounts. 'diff' reported nada. No joy. ~/.gvfs directory
is empty in both accounts. ~/.config/gtk-3.0 showed no diffs.

I am also using SolydX (up to date) with Thunar version 1.6.3.
It shows a Trash folder under Places. See screen shot. If I
highlight a file and hit delete, it goes to Trash. If I hold
the shift key and hit delete, I get the confirmation box asking
if I want to permanently delete the file.

You might have better luck getting some help in the SolydXK
forum. Some of the developers and testers are there.
