I checked my new HDs for more details and found a set bit 7
at offset 0x0b0 (Identfy Device, word 88) which show only
"UDMA modes supported" bits 0..6 in my ACS8-docs.
My controller may not be aware of UDMA 7 so the BIOS set
"UDMA mode selected" (offset 0x0b1) to mode 6.

Then I tried to get any new docs from T13.org, could be that
I missed where to search, but it seems that T13 became an
exquisite club (similar to PCI.sig) for paying members ?

Looking back, the docs I downloaded from t13.org are marked "working
draft". Maybe they have always required payment for finished standards...?

Indeed that has always been the case. T13.org was working drafts
through the final draft, but it is not the standard. For those that
need the actual standard for reference, you always had to go to the
pay Global Engineering Documents. IIRC, this was true at least as far
back as the first SCSI and ATA standards.
