Reactos is distributed as an iso which
can be burnt to cd, which I understand.
I have been told that the same iso can be
burnt to USB stick and also work.
How is it possible to boot from a USB stick
that contains an iso image instead of
a hard disk image?

make a virtual floppy/CD and boot to it. So basically, the ISO is mounted
and to a virtual CD then the boot process is transferred to the CD's boot
code. Not all OS-in-ISO can be booted with this method though.
