Hi All,

I plan on setting up a Citrix server in the office but we are
currently still in the Windows 2000 environment. Are there any
benefits to setting up a new Citrix server with MetaFrame XP? XP is
new to me but I have had quite a bit of experience with 1.8. How's the
migration from one to the other? Will I be able to set up a MetaFrame
XP box easily with the current knowledge I have with 1.8 or is it a
completely new thing? Thanks for you feedback.

XP does have quite a few new things in it. In fact, some things have been
completely redesigned. One big change is the way information about the
servers is stored. In 1.8, each server saved its own information about
published apps and configuration. Now all of those things are stored in a
database in a single location. You also need to know about the IMA Service,
which basically replaces the Program Neighborhood and ICA Browser services.
And most of the management tools are completely redesigned and are
Java-based.

FWIW, I like 1.8 better.

MF XP provides so many more features than 1.8 it isn't even a
contest...

The base product gets rid of the ICA browser for a db. As long as your
are using Win2k, it is very stable. Lots of MDAC issues on TSE. The
Print Management is MUCH better in XP. Xp also puts all its licenses
in the db, so no more installing and activating a license on every
server...

The FR added a ton of cool stuff, like a Universal Print Driver. It
isn't perfect for every situation, but it does help alot. I love the
Perfmon counters for ICA as well. Allows us to monitor not only ICA
bandwidth from client to server, but also how much drive mapping or
printing or scfreen shots use.
Plus Connection Control, CPU prioritization, not to mention CLient to
server SSL...

Citrix Web Console is great for the help desk, though it can get hard
to search when you have hundreds of users
