Have you heard of MAPublisher?
Convert your GIS data (CAD, Arcinfo, MID, USGS etc) into maps
using your graphics program such as Illustrator or Freehand.

Dear GIS/Mapping Professional
I am writing to introduce you to a product called MAPublisher which is a
plug-in for Illustrator and Freehand which allows the straight,
error-free importation of all map and GIS data as well as CAD data
(dxf). The product was created to make it easier for map-makers to take
advantage of the GIS technology at the desktop level and thus create
great maps in Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia Freehand. Once the data
is imported, with all attributes intact, the map is fully editable in
Illustrator or Freehand. You can also perform mapping operations on that
data such as projection, transformation, logical queries, automated
legends and so on. You can also take existing maps that have already
been created
in FreeHand or Illustrator and start building on data base attributes.
This product is already in widespread use at the USGS in the United
States as well as at
other government agencies worldwide.
In addition to hopefully interesting you in the product for your own
use, we are actively looking for distributors within the profession
around the world.
Anyone who has tried to work with maps in a graphics environment will
immediately appreciate
MAPublisher
