newsgroups this has been cross-posted to are not appropriate. If it is made
clear to me that a particular newsgroup is not appropriate for this

Hello,
Netcom, a fast-growing public Internet access provider, maintains an
anonymous ftp directory at:
ftp.netcom.com /pub
Upon approval by Netcom staff, a Netcom user can setup a subdirectory there,
allowing uploads and downloads of files from anywhere on the Internet via
anonymous ftp. Some of these subdirectories are intended by their owners for
public perusal and access, while other subdirectories are intended by their
owners for private or limited use (IMPORTANT NOTE: many of these "private"
subdirectories can still be accessed by the general public, however these
subdirectories were not setup by their owners for that purpose, that's what
I'm trying to say.)
Following is the summary list of the contents of the "publicly accessible"
subdirectories as of May 20, 1994. This information was provided
voluntarily by the owners of these subdirectories. It is to be assumed that
those subdirectories not included in the list below are intended for the
private use of the owner and are not of interest to the general public (about
20% of all the ftp subdirectories are included here).
Each entry has been shortened to a one-line summary. For example, my summary
line is:
noring - Personality Typing; WinHelp Authoring Info; THIS LIST! (see OmniMedia)
where 'noring' is the subdirectory (i.e., /pub/noring), and the remainder
is the summary description of the contents of that subdirectory. The e-mail
username of the owner of the directory is, by default, the name of the
subdirectory, with a few exceptions (for e-mailing, use the form
user...@netcom.com). For the exceptions, I've included the owner's e-mail
address in brackets [] in the summary description field.
I hope you enjoy this list. Netcom is fast becoming one of the largest
Internet sites, and there are a LOT of useful files in the anonymous ftp
directory, in all subject areas, free for the taking!
