Is there a AT&T/SBC/PacBell DSL outage in the 94607 area?
I am located near the address in the following URL:
http://www.ebmud.com/contact-ebmud

Hopefully, someone out there will check that AT&T/SBC/PacBell DSL in
the 94607 area is in working order.

FYI, I am sending this post from Starbucks due to
the DSL outage since ~12 PM on Friday (Sept 6).

Interesting because my neighbor (94708) was complaining
yesterday (Thursday)) that his DSL was out for the first
time in years. I do not have DSL and I do not know if
his problem was resolved.

Sorry for the late response but I only have web access from outside.

Thanks for the info. The AT&T DSL representatives really need to know.
When I called to report the outage problem, they tried to get me to
rip apart my network setup, which was working fine until ~12 PM on Friday
(Sept 6).

Hopefully, some nice AT&T DSL guru will know how to get my connection
working again.

Previously, there were two DNS Servers (68.94.156.1 & 68.94.157.1), which
were less likely to "conflict" with "wired" home network routers
(192.168.x.1).

[The above connection is from Starbucks' "attwifi" so no conflict.]

Why did AT&T suddenly decide to lease out DNS Servers (192.168.x.1) that
may "conflict" with "wired" home network routers (192.168.x.1)?

They didn't. The configuration on your computer was changed to use the DNS
provided by the router (192.168.x.1) instead of using the hard-coded
addresses of the AT&T DNS servers.

Thanks, the problem ended up being due to AT&T suddenly (without notice)
not allowing sub-account email addresses to be used for DSL internet login.
I've been logging in with a sub-account email address for many years.
For security reasons, I seldom use the primary email address.

Then, there was a power outage last Sunday, which affected the DNS servers.

Now, another problem has cropped up. DSL speed test shows download speed to
be below 1Mb/s. Just a day or two ago, it was above 3Mb/s. And, I'm
suppose to
be getting up to 6Mb/s. I'm about to write a letter to FCC. What the f*ck?

"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by
stupidity" Similarly, check for techinal things before jumping to the
conclusion that it is a AT&T conspiracy to rip you off.

First step is to power cycle the modem. It can have problems training
to the correct speed sometimes.

Second step is to call AT&T so they can run diagnostics. It could be a
problem at the DSLAM or the wire could have deteriorated. AT&T doesn't
do much in the way of proactive monitoring on consumer DSL. The motto
is "If the user isn't complaining, it must be working" :-) Also
remember squeaky wheel and all of that

Also note that DSL service is in steps. I think if you buy 6Mbps, you
can get somewhere between 3 and 6 Mbps. If you can't get 3Mbps, you can
demand they reduce your monthly fee to the 3Mbps level.

Interesting. FWIW, in ATT (ex Ameritech/SBC) subaccount email
addresses still work fine for DSL login. Apparently ATT/PacBell
marches to a different drummer.
