When sending emails, I often get the following message ...

An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800C0131

If you happen to be using Ouchlook Express (which you are judging by
your news header), your folders.dbx file is trashed:

Uh-oh, I guess I should ...

1) remember how the folders are organized
2) close Ouchlook Express (oh, that's a good one)
3) move the folders.dbx file to another directory
4) open OE to let it regenerate a new folders.dbx file

5) Forget 1 through 4 and switch to thunderbird ;)

While I use and recommend Thunderbird, it's only fair to note that it has its
own set of bugs (and bad behavior), including corruption of folder indices.
Fortunately, it is able to detect and automatically repair most cases of
corrupted indices when folders are compacted.

While Forte Agent is the better newsreader, Thunderbird is a much more capable
mail client.

Sounds like I need to give Thunderbird a try. Thanks!

Oh-no, not again ... when sending email,
I'm getting the following message again ...

An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800C0131

It went away briefly but now it's back.
Looks like that server needs another kick.

Sign up for a free Google Mail account, and you can use the Google outgoing
SMTP server (which I've found to be very reliable), even with your SBC/at&t
address.
