FROM: Locke - **INN Revival/ImagiNation Network Server Project Groups**
Howdy, folks!
This is a cross-post from the ImagiNation Network Server Project -- this is just exciting news, so I wanted to update folks here as well... I probably won't do this again, so if you're interested in the server development and helping out with eventually testing it when the time comes, feel free to join that group as well. :)
It's been a while since we've had a legitimate status report, so I wanted to take some time to fill you in. First and foremost... Wow. Ben has really taken the reigns on the code and make vast progress over the past few weeks. I'm happy to report that the new server now advances past the login screen to the game map and, while that may sound trivial, Ben has put in a LOT of work into building a solid framework that will make further development a bit easier in terms of sending and receiving data. We're all really excited about that!
Jason has been prepping the hardware and planning the resource allocation needs for the server, so we'll be smoking along the intarwebs with good hardware and bandwidth aplenty when the time comes for that.
I can't remember if we'd mentioned this before, but we've decided to integrate a web presence with the game. What we were thinking is this:
1) You visit the website and create an account with your password.
2) You'll be assigned your INN ID number which you can either put into the LCSI.CFG file or you can download the client with the CNF file pre-set for you.
3) You log into the game with the password you created on the website.
4) Once we figure everything out, you'll be able to read/send mail and view boards both in-game and through the site via custom code I'll be writing for the website.
The good news is that I took a bit of time in October and I have a very aesthetically pleasing, working prototype of the website that handles account and password creation with email link verification and all of the database structure and code setup. Once Ben had finished the code that moved a client into the game map this evening, I started working on (and finished) the code that authenticates the users' credentials against what they created on the website.
Needless to say that I'm fairly stoked that we have this integrated and working. We're all excited at what the future holds for this project, and WE WILL NEED YOU. If you're able to prep a few Yserbius characters to finish the final quest (Vitamin F allowed ;p), we may be needing folks to eventually do that for us to help figure out how to handle some specific pieces of data that the client sends.
Well, that's all for this evening -- take care and stay tuned!
