Yes; from an EL IP, demonews.mindspring.com works fine.

Yes, ELN uses Giganews as its outsourced usenet/newsgroup service with
no caps (only two connections max. though).

Ant is currently not listening to any songs on his home computer.
Giganews provides earthlink's Usenet news service under contract (they've
switched companies a couple of times).
Use server name "nntp.earthlink.net" and login with your current earthlink
email account name (your...@earthlink.net) and password.

I wonder how long this contract will last. I hope ELN will never drop
it, but I doubt it will last. I love it too. :(

OK, that's what I do now. I guess my Earthlink cable
service via Time Warner's RoadRunner gives me Giganews
by virtue of my Earthlink subscription and not the RoadRunner
Internet service. Strangely, I get billed through Time Warner
and Time Warner billing reps tell me that I am a Time Warner
customer and not an Earthlink customer. TW apparently feels
that Earthlink was just a "finder" for them. But it will be that
Giganews service that will keep me with Earthlink when I
switch to DSL. Earthlink, are you listening? AT&T are you
listening?

Simple Question.
If your main e-mail address is one of the Earthlink companies (See the list on
the list linked on the logon page of EL Web Mail)?
Then Yes.

I have the same kind of account; TW provides the physical connection,
services the modem, etc. Everything else is EL. I've been very happy with
it, especially since EL provides more email addresses and personal web
space for the same price. Dunno what piece of that TW gets, but less is
better...

For 2 days, I couldn't access Earthlink's GigaNews
news service. I could connect everywhere else, though.
I called Earthlink to see if it had to do with GigaNews
assuming that my introductory period is over, and with
Time Warner telling me that my introductory period is
over. Well, not the front line rep, not her supervisor,
and not the supervisor who called me back new that an
Earthlink subscription included news service. All
adamantly denied it. The latter even challenged me to
tell her the name of the news server and the username
that I supposedly have been using so she could show
that it had nothing to do with Earthlink. She finally realized
that I might be right when I told her that the server's name
was "news.west.earthlink.net" and that the user name was
my Earthlink email address. She wrote up a service ticket
and said that an Earthlink rep would call me in 1 to 3 days.
So a day later, I can connect to GigaNews again, although
no one ever called me. And... Time Warner has sent me
a monthly bill in which the amount is $31.36 instead of the
$29.95 that it has been. But when I call TW, the automatic
system says my next bill is for $28.86 - LOWER than it
has been up to now. And I'm still getting 5.8Mbps. Go
figger. It appears, at least for now, that Time Warner has
backed off on raising my monthly bill to $42 for 6Mbps,
and I can still access GigaNews.
