I think it's been longer than a week. We've noticed it here in Alexandria as
well.
Comcast has this problem with various channels from time to time. That's why I
make sure any tv I buy has the ability to select auto audio level control.

Our local ABC station (KIRO, also ch 4) is significantly louder than the rest...
Call your local Comcast head end or the station and let them know.
I wonder if this happens because all ads are send from the station at
slightly elevated volumn - which is the exact moment that comcast was
setting the level at their end ;-)
Just the one? You're lucky. In my area I'm constantly fiddling with the
volume control. Most of the channels are about the same volume but anything
'on-demand' (300-400's) including FearNet (166) is always very loud, as is
Discovery ID (111) History (55) and Speed. (70) On the other hand, TVland
(59) and a few others I can't think of offhand are barely audible with the
volume set at mid-level. It's not that big a deal to me, but I've often
wondered why it's so.
This problem is so prevalent that I wonder if any manufacturer hasn't
offered a TV model that stores the volume level *by channel*.
I haven't been able to find such an animal....
Jonesy
Same problem here. It's consistently inconsistent.

You don't need to do that if the tv automatically normalizes the output level.
Many TVs offer this feature, including my current Sony Bravia LCD.

Same here & on occassion, the sound just drops out; only way to get
the sound back is to turn the cable box on/off.
You know that's a feature of the set-top cable box?
Setup > Audio Setup > Audio Output: Advanced, Compression: Heavy
When I'm having trouble with audio, I change Compression between Heavy
and None, whichever sounds better. Occassionally, one of the stereo tracks
is a problem and I switch it to Mono.
Let's not forget that tvs aren't known for coming with adequate
speakers, so that doesn't help either.
fwiw, when that happens here, switching the stb (Moto 6412) to a different
channel and then back again solves it...

Thanks, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. Perhaps it has been a
few weeks, just seemed to happen all of the sudden. It's only the one
channel so far, which made me wonder if it was the station. I suppose
I could experiment with some rabbit ears and see if it really is a
Comcast issue.

Sigh. In Alexandria last night, the audio for WETA HD, channel 200, was way down
in the mud. And of course I forgot to reduce the amplifier volume before
switching to the football game on ESPN, so we (and the neighbors) got a
momentary earfull.
