I don't see any problems with my Internet, cable, or telephone service,
but I'm wondering why it's blinking when I have nothing connected to it,
and what kind of data traffic is making it blink.
Well, hell, maybe the modem's brain had a minor ischemic event and needs a
gentle tap in the power cord...
Hahaha. I was thinking it might be a bad plug somewhere. Inside wiring is
typically two-pair even when only one pair is in use.
Hmmm. The wiring in the house is pretty old, but I don't want to rip it
up just to solve a blinking light. Would resetting the modem help--can't
unplug it since it has a backup battery.

I'd give the reset a try...
The firmware may have been upgraded. I have DCV and was using one line
but just for fun I plugged in a corded phone to line#2 --- and nothing.
But I left it there "for emergencies." One week later it started to RING
when the other line rang and now it is working! i.e. both lines are
connected together.
