I see "Comcast Text Messaging" on their home page
but I cannot figure out how to use/activate/describe it.

Has Anyone here tried it?

I believe that you need either an Android smartphone or one of those
iPad / iPhone thingies. Then you need to install the Xfinity Mobile App
on it.

I have the Xfinity Mobile App running on an HTC Inspire and it works
quite well.

That's exactly my situation, so how do you do it?

You can text message from your computer to any phone using the full ten digit
phone number and the phone's company. Here are some examples:

12345...@txt.att.net
12345...@vmobl.com
12345...@tmomail.net
12345...@myboostmobile.com
12345...@messaging.sprintpcs.com
12345...@messaging.nextel.com
12345...@mymetropcs.com
12345...@message.alltel.com
12345...@questmp.com

Enjoy

After you sign in to read your email, scroll down to the texting area at
the bottom of the page.

Interesting thread.

I have a Tracfone which I seldom use and have never texted with it.
Tracfone does not have its own service and in testing found I could send
a message from email to myself using:

12345...@cingularme.com

I think since Tracfone piggybacks best local service, my address could
change depending where I'm at.

too.

I pay too - in fractions of minutes.

Thought about putting phone on do not call list but spammers are doing
it on my home lines even though they are on the DNC list.

Worst are the junk faxes which cost me ink and paper.
A lot of these a-holes are outside the country where US cannot touch them.

Also in thread, I found two other services that took my email to myself.
Educational exercise for something I will never use ;)

With T-Mobile (at least) you can change your default
01234...@comcast.net text message email addy to something else.
It's not easy to find in their bazillion levels of web pages, but I did
it for my phone several years ago (and many T-Mobile web site 'updates'
ago). No text spam since.

I don't see a texting area. Is that because I don't have their phone?

Thanks. I was also concerned that it had to do with the way I had my
mail configured. This clears it up.

I seldom use Comcast mail site except when on business computer and
looking for inadvertently held spam and much prefer Thunderbird as my
mail client.
