Does anyone know the details of how Virgil
came to have his right arm nearly shot off
at the elbow? It happened *after* the famous
OK Corral incident. It's not clear in the
book what the actual circustances were that
caused Virgil to lose the use of his left
arm for the rest of his life. The book does
mention that Wyatt went after two of the
Clantons and Curly Bill for the shooting, but
no details about how it happened.
He was shot from ambush on 28 December 1881 and pretty much lost the use
of his left arm.

Thanks for your reply but I was hoping someone
could provide more details of what happened. The book
implies that he was ambushed, and says that
Wyatt sought indictments against three individuals
he felt were responsible. I'm assuming that
much more is known about the actual incident
today, after all these years, than was known then.
>As Virgil was doing his nightly rounds of the town,
>a bullet smashed his elbow.
Every account I've since read on
this - yes, I've been digging further - says
it was a shotgun blast that damaged his arm,
not a bullet.
