This was big big news in B.C. when this horrific mass murder occurred.
Sh*thead father is the only one alive now, hopefully to rot in prison for
the rest of his life.

Sonya Handel, the mother of six young children who were murdered by their
father in a remote community on Vancouver Island in 2002, has died, her
former lawyer said yesterday. Carter Nagel said Ms. Handel passed away from
ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease.

Ms. Handel's husband, Jay Handel, was convicted of first degree murder in
the deaths of the couple's children: Sebastien, 11; Roxanne, 9; Martial, 7;
Moriah, 6; Levi, 5; and Lydia, 2. Mr. Handel, 45 at the time, killed the
children, then burned down the family home with the children inside, to
punish his wife, whom he erroneously believed was having an affair.

Mr. Handel was sentenced in 2003 to life imprisonment with no opportunity
for parole for 25 years.

Gosh, how many bad breaks can one person get? ALS is no easy way to go
out of this world.

A Google of "Jay Handel" will provide the details of the crime. It was
horrible and depressing, and many of us parents gave our kids extra hugs
after the story broke.

25 years ???? What kind of half assed justice is that ?? If Canada
doesn't want the death penalty , fine, whatever,, but why should this turd
ever have a chance at parole ??

not sure if anyone has read the horrible interview Jay did in 2012 for a Christian magazine but it is sickening. "How did this happen to me" "The inmates hate me" "I can't wait for parole" type statements but no personal responsibility. no remorse or statement regarding the horror he put Sonya through, it is sickening to read.http://digital.faithtoday.ca/faithtoday/20120102/?pg=58#pg58
I grew up and live on Saltspring Island and went to school with Sonya's older sister Michelle and her older sister Jeanette.I knew Jay well as he was a bartender here and also worked for the local freight company. He was always weird but who could conceive he would ever do such evil acts.

Thank you, Sir or Madam "spacet", for this link. The sentiments expressed in this ludicrous "Slam!" essay are indeed breathtaking. Well, at least we know that he is suffering behind bars, if only for a couple decades.

The poster above had it exactly correct in pointing out the lunacy unintentionally generated by Canada's unwillingness to consider the death penalty. And the Christian community is also culpable here--or at least the ministry cited which looks forward to his parole is--for taking the silly Christian forgiveness doctrine to the same irrational degree as did that victim of the nearby Marysville, Washington school shooting, when recently he misguidedly (and self-servingly) "forgave" the dead gunman.
