Heart attack as I recollect. Lynde himself recounted how he was
seriously overweight for many years before slimming down. Coronary
disease got him anyway.

Both causes of death were cited about a year ago, when someone else asked
about Paul Lynde, and the amyl nitrate story was the one in the press
files. There's no need to reinvent the wheel here.

Umm, I think you're making that up or passing on a rumor.

From the Internet Movie Database:
Date of death (details)
9 January 1982, Los Angeles, California, USA. (drowned while intoxicated)

While the IMDB is not an irrefutable source (since it is user-supplied), I've
also read the same cause of death other places. (Yes, you can refute my
word-of-mouth statements too.. But please provide CITATIONS if you have
proof that this was not his cause of death.)

Paul Lynde died of a massive heart attack (he was a very heavy smoker).
And he was very gay.

As mentioned here more than once, the IMDb's information on this conflicts
with contemporary press reports. Those reports quote police as saying
Lynde was found nude in his bedroom, sprawled on the floor, and that he'd
died from a heart attack brought on by his use of amyl nitrate, a sexual
stimulant.

This is a case where the IMDb is wrong.

Don't ask why, but I have a copy of his death certificate. Paul Edward
Lynde, born 6/13/26, in Ohio, never married, exact date of death
unknown, body discovered 1/11/82 at 509 North Palm Drive (house since
torn down) by his sister Helen of (address deleted) Santa Monica, CA.
Immediate causes of death 1.) Acute Myocardial Infarct 2.)
Arteriosclerotic coronary artery disease. Other Conditions 1.)
Pulmonary emphysema. Cremated 1/15/81 (obviously a typo) at Grandview
Crematory, Glendale, CA. by Westwood Village Mortuary.

goes he died in bed with a trick who just got up and walked out when he

Since you have the death certificate, could you tell me the place of
final disposition? In other words, were his ashes buried/interred at a
cemetery (is so, which one)? Or were they taken home to an address,
scattered, or what?

Usually, depending on the county, or how popular the person is, it can be
anywhere from 1 day, to the "common person's" listing of 2 weeks.

> I wouldn't expect that they'd know this...

From memory (I don't have one in front of me, and it's been too long!) I
remember spaces on the L.A. County certs that lists mortuary, date of
service, and interment listing.

I hope this helps.

Mount Vernon Ohio...I know it as birthplace of Cooper Industries,

Back in the 70's, Paul Lynde was considered a heterosexual sex symbol by hordes of housefraus who thought he was just a little eccentric, and he received hundreds of marriage proposals thru the mail from adoring female fans. Go figure.

A couple of (independent of each other, and somewhat contradictory)
comments come to mind:

1) It can be argued that that's what women really want. Someone who is
funny, entertaining, and sexually non-threatening.

2) The converse wouldn't really be a problem. I can think of any
number of prominent lesbians that I think are funny, entertaining, and,
well, 'hot' - and not just 'hot' in the sense of being a lesbian (and
in the way that that in and of itself is considered a turn-on for
some men).

P.S. There was an episode of "I've Got a Secret" (a zillion years ago) in
which Liberace came on at the beginning of the show and announced that he
had a secret (as was customary on that show for the "special guests" to
do). Years later, we all snicker at that particular episode...

Was this the group where I mentioned something very much like this myself not
long ago, or was it somewhere else?...I remember including Jane Lynch, Cynthia
Nixon and Melissa Etheridge in my list....

The second one didn't work (got error trying to play the vid), but I didn't

* Difficulties in empathising with others
* Problems with understanding another person's point of view
* Hampered conversational ability
* Problems with controlling feelings such as anger, depression

* Adherence to routines and schedules, and stress if expected routine
is disrupted
* Inability to manage appropriate social conduct
* Delayed understanding of sexual codes of conduct

* Sensitivity to criticism
* Eccentricity
* Behaviour varies from mildly unusual to quite aggressive

OK. GTK.

Incidentally, something I found interesting/puzzling in the "description"
text for the YouTube vid (referenced upthread) is that L.G.'s birthname
was "Goldstein", but her father's name was "Leo Gore". Odd, that...

Did she take her Mother's name or something at birth, then switch to her
father's name later on?

Since homosexuality occurs in nature, it is natural (look up the

Anecdotally, Wife and I saw Leslie Gore and a handful of other '60's Pop stars perform in 1986. We were seated stage left and could see the performers at the edge of the stage, ready to be introduced. The M C introduced Leslie Gore as I watched, and gasped, I turned to my wife and said, "Do you see that? Leslie Gore just kissed that womam right on the lips!"

While I've always been liberal on social issues, or as Rush says, a Communist, it was surprising in 1986, in New Bedford, MA, to see two women kissing.

Leslie Gore has been openly gay since ... at least ... the early 1970s.

I used to work at the dry cleaners in Brentwood (Los Angeles) where she
took her clothes.

The first time she came in (after I started working there) she was
with a rather masculine looking woman ... She gave me her laundry ...
and I walked back towards the woman who owned the dry cleaners ... and
jokingly said: "Oh no. Not Leslie Gore. I was in love with her."

I could see the owner cringe ... and I heard LG's voice right behind
me. She had followed me to ask the owner a question. I walked away
without looking back at her.

As soon as she started walking back to the door ... I returned to the
owner and said: "If the dyke thing didn't ruin my chance at happiness
... my big mouth sure did." I never noticed ... that Miss Gore had
turned and started walking back toward the owner.

I saw the owner cringe again. And I heard LG say: "Don't worry. It
wasn't your big mouth."

She was a doll, though.

Huh. The cause of death I'd always heard about him was much more...
colorful.
I guess it was just an urban legend.

RA: there's a big difference between a liberal and a communist. I think the word you were searching for to describe yourself is douchebag.

For those who are puzzled by that word reply, only a Marx
Bros. (Groucho) fan would understand it!
(in their greatest film, "Duck Soup")

If you are conservative (or libertarian) on economic issues, you
can't be labeled a full Communist, as I'm sure Rush would agree. :)
But, if you are anti-war, Rush and his other neo-con friends would
be quick to label you a 'traitor', or worse. LOL

Yep, it was a heart attack. IIRC, like his
father. They both died at age 55, and the
coroner said that Lynde had the heart of
a 90 year old man.

Hard to imagine anyone being surprised to find that he had heart trouble...Hal
Needham didn't feel it necessary to explain the joke in "The Villain" when
casting Lynde as the Indian chief "Ne-e-ervous Elk"....r
