Bill Klatt, a former Minnesota Fighting Saints and University of Minnesota
hockey forward, died today at his home in Afton after a three-year battle
with leukemia.
Klatt, 64, played hockey, football and baseball at St. Paul Hill High School
(now Hill-Murray).
As a junior, under the direction of Gophers coach Glen Sonmore during the
1967-68 season, Klatt led the Western Collegiate Hockey Association in

for the fastest goal at the start of a game - five seconds - on Jan. 13,
1968, against Michigan.
Klatt played two seasons with the Fighting Saints of the World Hockey
Association.
Afterward, he played one season with the Omaha Knights of the Central Hockey
League, four seasons in Austria's professional hockey league and as a member
of the 1976 U.S. national team.
Following his hockey career, he was the owner of Heppner's Auto Body shops.
